“…government of the people, by the people, for the people,”
When Abraham Lincoln gave his famous address at Gettysburg, the Northern and Southern Sates of what is now the United States of America, were engaged in a civil war that had rights of Black Americans as the core reason for conflict. South Africa underwent a similar struggle for freedom, where the rights of all South Africans, not just a minority were at stake.
Common sense prevailed and South Africa today is a Democracy with a very liberal condition, but some one has forgotten to tell some of the politicians that they work for the greater majority. Take Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga and the Text Book Scandal in Limpopo.
Education is a basic right of all South African Children. Without Educated Citizens, South Africa cannot survive in a World that is changing fast due to technological advances happening daily. The Struggle will have been in vain, and South Africa will go the way of Egypt and Libya, a situation that could be avoided.
Amongst the children being shortchanged, could be another Albert Einstein or Albert Schweitzer. Even someone from a humble beiging can do great things!
So pardon me whilst, I blow the Minister a rather loud Raspberry!
