Money can be inherited, won or earned, there is simply no other legal way to get it. Certainly we all need it to survive, and truth be told most of us could do with a little bit extra. I am self employed and trying to get a business of the ground, so there are times when I need to look for temporary or part time work to bring in some extra money.

In the past you would find jobs by asking around and reading the job section in the daily newspaper. You can still do that but as the Internet is taking over more of our lives every day, this can now be done on line. Gumtree is possibly the most popular site for this, although there others. Scroll trough the temp/part time section and you will come across adverts promising you a large income for little or no work, others that offer to help you start your own business for as little as R300.00.

There people making a decent living off the Internet. There are others who have tried and given up in disgust. You need to look at this in context:

  • A large part of the population does not have access to the Internet using a computer
  • Bandwidth is a problem
  • Mobile computing is not ideal unless you have a smart phone
  • South Africans still regard e-commerce with suspicion

Whilst a company like Kalahari.net is making inroads into on-line sales, South Africa has a long way before it can emulate the USA.

There are opportunities to make money on the Internet and you will find people who have been successfully in doing so. But who do you believe, whose advice do you follow?

The Internet is also turning out to be the perfect platform for fraud. You see, we tend to believe what we read. So when someone puts up a Web Site about how to make money, and supports it with with pictures of people holding up cheques and success stories we believe it, right? After all there is the proof in front of our eyes. The success stories could have been written exactly like I am writing this article, using my knowledge to come up with something that appears plausible. The pictures  are not difficult to fake using a camera, a computer  a scanner and a graphics program. Understand, that there are people who really have made money, published their success stories and have picture of the cheque as proof.

Meet Pat Flynn. Pat is 28, living in Southern California and considers himself to be the luckiest man on earth. Pat also earns a good living from the Internet. Read his story and you will see that it did not just happen overnight, he had to work at it. Now he work from home and gets away with a few hours work a day. be sure to visit his Niche Challenge Hub and see how he and others went about setting a Web Site with the intention of making money from it.

To learn more about how others go about making on-line, listen to his podcasts where he interviews other people who have made a sussess on the interest.

So wile there is no quick fix, it is possible to make money on the Internet, you just have to work at it.
